Originally posted by Nate Well, the answer is simple -- we don't sing for him because he makes no effort to connect with us. I mean, he is an absolute legend -- he's played and run both the Caps and the national team, and helped win us the Soccer Bowl; if he came over and gave us a wave every now and then, I've no doubt we'd sing his name to the rafters. But he doesn't -- so we don't. He came over to the fans after the second leg of the final this year, which those of us who made the trip all appreciated -- and if I remember, we did give him a couple rounds of 'Lenarduzzi's Blue and White Army.' But that was maybe the second or third time I'd heard that song all year. And I have my suspicions that his visit that day may have been prompted by the fact that I'd made this same observation to some members of staff the night before... I wonder how much of a say Bobby had in the hiring or introduction of Southsider relations reps (for lack of better terminology). If it was his idea or he had some sort of big say in it I would say that he hasn't ignored the Southsiders. Then again this is assuming he had some say in it and I would hope he did. Still, sour milk aside, if we made more of an effort to stretch to him an "olive branch" I think he would come around. |

Heh, good stuff there Richard. We're quite familiar with a few of those tunes, and we use them often with our own words.
"Que Sera Sera" has a special meaning for us here... A few years back our pitch was absolutely mangled by a university football match (as in American "throw ball" football) which was held after several days of extremely heavy rains. Our coach is a former Icelandic international who played for West Ham. He was interviewed by the press about the condition of the pitch after some emergency repair attempts were made, to which he famously replied: "Well it's not like fucking Wembley, is it?" ![]() Hence we serenade him and the lads with: Que sera sera! Whatever will be, will be! It's not fucking Wem-bl-ey! Que sera sera! |

I always wondered where the Wembley reference came from.
You've probably already done so, but it would be great to have those stories paired with their respective cheers for future SS websites. Actual history really helps add to the feeling of history for those of us who weren't there to experience it first hand.

Although the Closing Ceremony for the 2010 Winter Olympics was, once Nickleback started playing, an unmitigated cluster-f**k, it did have one shining moment for me. The Maple Leaf Forever. (sorry, this is the Ann Murray version fom the last game @ Maple Leaf Gardens. It was the clearest version I could find)
I'd completely forgotten about that song until Michael Buble started sining it. Until he went all Vegas on us, I was thinking what a great song this would be to sing in the SS.
So without further ado ...
THE BLUE & WHITE FOREVER Of Blue & White our flag unfurls
Beneath the mountains capped in snow A scent of victory in the air O'er the emerald field below. In you we keep our hopes our dreams For you we stand together A team that’s feared throughout the land, The Blue & White Forever! Long may you play and grace our grounds, Blue skies and stormy weather, Whitecaps FC you do us proud The Blue & White Forever! In Eight-Six our heroes came Gathered ’ next to Boundary Road They conquered teams from far and wide As champions they won Strikers swift defenders strong Comrades that win together Four time Champions, still not done The Blue and White forever! Long may you play and grace our grounds, Blue skies and stormy weather, Whitecaps FC you do us proud The Blue & White Forever! Whitecaps FC around the world Your play speaks as you rise above The legend grows and spreads the news Of the Whitecaps that we love Remind us all our union bound, By ties we cannot sever, A team revered on every ground, The Blue & White forever! Long may you play and grace our grounds, Blue skies and stormy weather, Whitecaps FC you do us proud The Blue & White Forever! |

UK football comentators have released a new song for England's World Cup campaign. There's a link to a short clip of the sing at the bottom of the page.
Anything we can use? Song is simple enough.

I've always liked the "Life is Life" song by Opus. I tried to youtube the chant but couldn't find it and don't know where I heard it. We all sing together to cheer the Whitecaps through and we know we're so much better than a shite team like you Caps for Life - Na na na na na We are Caps for Life - Na na na na na and you're our sacrifice - Na na na na na |

Ju-nih-no ... la-la-la-la-la. Just substitute your favorite 3 syllable name.
Easy one for the plebes in the grandstands too.

This would be appropriate after we ask everyone "...shall we sing a song for you?" |

^^ That's probably my biggest beef with The Maple Leaf Forever ... the chorus and the stanza before it are proactically identical. Personally, I'd use the tune for the opening verse and then the chorus. We can mess with the lyrics as needed. |

This just popped into my head when I was thinking of chants earlier today.
Can we have a "Chants" section and then threads for each team in the league, headed by a "Neutral" thread? I think that would be easier than trying to sift through pages of stuff that may not be related to game-day matches. |
