We’re in the atmosphere, Vancouver
Vancouver,
(repeat until hoarse)

Sing to “You are my sunshine”
You are our Whitecaps,
Our only Whitecaps,
You make us happy, when skies are grey
You never notice, how much we luv you
Oh please don’t take our Whitecaps away!

Sing to our northwest rivals: (limbers mix)
Hark now here the SouthSide sing,
The limbers ran away,
We will fight forever more,
Cause it’s our derby day…

Sing to the “when the saints go marching in”
Oh when the Caps,
Go marching in,
Oh, when the Caps go marching in,
Oh how I want to be in that number,
When the Caps go marching in

Chant when urging the home side:
Come On you Whites… (repeat melodically)

Chant when opponent gets scrappy:
Build a bonfire,
Build a bonfire,
Put a palace on the top,
Stick the limbers in the middle,
And burn the bloody lot!

Chant when the Caps put on a good show:
We luv you we do,
We luv you we do,
We luv you we do,
Oh Whitecaps we luv you!

Chant when addressing the locals:
Carefree, wherever you may be,
Were Vancouver B C
And we don’t give a toss,
Wherever you may be,
‘Cos we’re are Vancouver B C

Chant to the opposition if the Caps are sticking it to ‘em:
Can we play you, can we play you
Can we play you every week?
Can we play you, can we play you
Can we play you every week?
(repeat in machine gun fashion)

That was pretty much the chants we used to use each match...

Prolly, get flamed a bit for this (dunno why we would flame each other - but it happened last time I posted this though lol)

I hope those chants prove useful to start the modern twists for you guys to add. It also showed we hardly swore to disrupt the opposition - it was effective (caused a few red cards for keepers - like popov lol), attracted you guys when you heard the Colenol and I do our shtick years ago, and even entertained all ages to an extent.

It's total bullocks to say 'it's a blue -collar sport' as the rebuttle. Anyone can swear, takes no creativity, and I am blue collar mate too and still had enough education to learn even regular/creative words can be pointed ;)

I am not naive either though, some occasions will bring up swearing, i do it in chanting and conversatioin too - but I guess I hope posting the old chants we do also create more witty retorts rather than the trend of strait f-bomb chants (those just appear to be useless to me to be honest).

Anyhow - GREAT STUFF guys! Keep up the chants (still humming to ST.Pauli chant hymn in my head :) Damn lookin forward to first match toss up tailgate!

i agree you don't want just constant swearing for the sake of it, i just don't believe we should make the whole chant thing family friendly, just becomes a little sterile.

The real effect with this chant is the movement that goes in time with song. Scarves or what ever you're wearing on your head have to move on this one.

Definitely worth a try.

/agree. It still is a drinking choir not meant for straight family chants by anymeans. Just wwant to see a bit of diversity - I know you guys have it in you, half the newer chants posted of late show that already!

To be honest, it is awesome to see you guys have all these optional takes. I am stoked to learn some new ones to be certain!

/already bought the beer - if I survive my playoff game tonight, gonna look forward to a week of chant and drinking prep!

I'm agree with you on the swearing Rasta - it just kills the creativity. One of the reasons I stopped coming to the Southside (aside from being ridiculously busy and poor) was the fact that it was becoming more and more fractured by drunken idiots yelling all sorts of stupid stuff.

Things like "Hey Saunders, you're fucking terrible" and "I'd rather be a homo than a Yank" just don't cut it. Not only do they do the Southside a disservice by alienating people who want to be a part of the singing, but I would argue they don't even work to distract the other team as well.

I have absolutely no problem with swearing as long as it serves a purpose within the song. (ex: "Can you hear ____ sing")

I think I'm largely preaching to the converted on here, but perhaps if you see someone say something way out of line just tell them to tone it down a bit.

[/steps down from soap box]

Anyways, I didn't know you gus started doing that St. Pauli chant last year. I've seen it before and thought it was fantastic but forgot to mention it on here. Have you managed to get people on the same page clapping together and do you do the transition to "That's the way we like it"?

There's another chant St. Pauli does that I thought Vancouver might be able to incorporate or modify. It's basically a song and response between the supporters and the team.

Starts at 3:00

I know it's probably wishful thinking, but I think anything that makes the fans feel closer to the team is a positive thing and would in turn help the team by turning Swangard/BC Place/Waterfront into a fortress.

If that's not possible, the tune is still pretty sweet and if we could modify it and sing it between the west and East sides of the Southside.
Who ate all the pies?

Hey Guys,

Our Dale Cavese chant sucks. I think a lot of people don't realize that there is a tune behind it, not just a bunch of la la la's. Take a listen to this. This is how it is supposed to go.

i thought a lot of the chants were well sung last night, obviously the carol james one was a little coarse, but i think it represented how we feel about her... Tongue
i liked how we sang we don't need a roof, then it rained and it was carol, carol give us a roof. LOL whoever started those, well done!
i think as long as we keep a balance between family friendly and the rude ones, we will be fine.

here is the Argentinian chants mass wanted btw we should sticky this thread.

That's an awesome chant.  Re-christen it to Dale (in Spanish means "giv'er" pronounced Dah-leh) Whitecaps I say.  :D

If I could suggest these lyrics though:

Ole, ole-ole, ole, ole, ole-ola,
ole, ole-ole, ole, ole, ole-ola,
Ohhh Whitecaps_(I)-love-you-so,
and this feelin'_that-I've-got will never diiiiie.

Rinse and repeat.  :)

ps. first post, was at the match last night, good atmosphere.

I still think we can't do the literal translation from spanish.  There are still too many syllables.

Ole, ole-ole, ole, ole, ole-ola,
ole, ole-ole, ole, ole, ole-ola,
Oooohhhhh Vancouver,
Gooooooooo Whitecaaaaps.

Repeat.

It's simple to get the words.  I got in on the chant Because I was following this thread, but saw others around me get lost on the last two sentences.  Remembering what the tail gat e does to some,  simplicity is key.
