Our group working with another group does not make them a sub-group of ours, or is that how the clubs see it? Does the club think their will be one supporter section, and although groups will be different that they will put them under the umbrella of the Southsiders? A group (or potential group) that behaves (or wants to behave) or support (or want to support) in a manner not consistent with our own is not a sub-group. They are their own group, with whom we can always have good relations and make some coordinated support , much like our jean vested friends, or any potential group who may feel they want more from the Southsider experience now, and are not willing to wait. So what is a sub group to our board and other members? Some good discussion and points being raised now. |

I would tend to lean towards more constant, yet meaningful and responsive/interactive, support during the match. At the same time I get that there will be varied conversations that will take place during all of this.In terms of organizing it, Capos are usually a positive way to move forward. However, they don't make things perfect. Having witnessed things firsthand in Toronto, Montreal, and Portland it does take some coordination. It also takes a number of individuals that are willing to not actually watch the match. These people have to be at least somewhat selfless and it can be a thankless task. At the derby in Portland this year some of the original members were not happy with the continued use of the same songs, they were frustrated that there were so many filler songs sung, and they longed for some of the more witty/meaningful songs to be used. We do only have a few matches left this year, maybe one of them would be a good option for a test run? I think Day Tripper's Drum band practice during a PDL match was a great idea and allowed a number of people to learn some new songs (1 was in my head most of this week). Or perhaps there will be enough pre-season friendlies next year.In terms of what Grandstander was saying about sub groups/sections, it sounds to me that the Board is thinking of groups that wouldn't actually be in the main Southside section, but would be a part of the Southsiders and would exist to foster growth in certain demographics. It is natural for there to be cluster of friends within the main section...which there already are, no?Looking forward to seeing where all of this discussion leads.Much Love,Forever A Team I believe this has come down from the 'House of Don', after the trouble between TFC and Columbus earlier this season, I may be wrong, but this is what I am led to believe, and is actually no different from what happens in Europe. |

Nelson this isn't spilled Milk. Chatter is one thing but not for half a game. If people really don't want to watch the Caps then don't come. Conversations should be limited we're there to chant and put on a show. If you want longer ones, we have a tailgate, after the games, half time, etc. when a longer chat can happen.
However, this will be my last post on the subject. I feel I have said what I have had to say and honestly. Edited by 86er - 31-July-2010 at 22:18 |

For whom is the show? If you want to put on a show Matthew, Winger does take some nights off. I'm not their to entertain anyone, or be an attraction. If we as group help in the entertainment, it's because we're being ourselves. We don't owe it to anyone to entertain. We're not some Whitecaps sideshow.
Watching a Caps game is what everyone wants to do. When were cheering and watching the same thing? Finally, IT"S SPILLED MILK...get over it. This kind of thing happens 3 or 4 times a season...we have absentees, we have people that may have guests at the stadium, people go on vacation. Some days things won't always come together. Having been around this group loosely for 4 years, and right amongst them over the last two, it happens. I wasn't even there for the second half of the Minnesota game, but feel that the complainers are turning this half into something bigger then it is. RELAX, it's supposed to be fun people (however you define it), not work. |

I like being part of the Southside because I'm a frustrated footballer who was never good enough to make it as a pro. The Southside allows me to be involved in the match as a 12th man. I'm not there to be a cheerleader trying to entertain other fans.
I didn't feel inspired during the Minnesota match in part because the players from both teams didn't offer us much in the way of exciting, competitive play. There have been too many nights this year with similar efforts yet the Southside have done well to keep the songs and chants going hard. I've watched many MLS games this year that weren't all that good either. Low scoring, few chances, poor quality of play but the supporters , for the most part, are doing their thing and showing great dedication to their teams. It is quite obvious that the fan culture in football in North America has caught on and growing. Many people want to be part of it and that is great. There isn't a club in the world though, who's supporters are loud 100% of the time and we are no different. Atmosphere is usually at it's peak for meaningful games. Promotion, relegation(which does not exist in North America) cup and derby matches etc. We don't get much of that here. Other than Portland,TFC,Seattle, maybe Montreal we don't have great rivalries. We don't get to see great players from the opposition. Despite all of the things that we lack in here North America I'd say that we've done one hell of a job with our support lately. |

Just to be clear, in terms of my earlier comments about excessive chatting (and entire halves of matches being affected), I was not referring to the recent Minnesota match.
But yes, the second half was dead last weekend. There were fewer people in the Southside, and there seemed to be quite a few people standing at the northeast corner. Did some Southsiders go over there for the second half? Making the trip over at half-time used to be a regular occurrence during the early years of the Southsiders. I personally found it rather irksome, as it split the group into two halves, and it was a pain in the ass to have to take flags down from the fence just before half-time was over (as it often took me that long to figure out about the migration). I was actually under the impression that the stadium staff were not allowing people to stand at the northeast corner these days, because shouting from the northeast is clearly heard by the "VIPs" in the north end.
One person who was definitely absent in the second half was Masster. My understanding is that he left the match at half-time to join the TEAM 1040 studio for the 9pm Full-Time show. Now that's dedication: missing half the match just for the opportunity to plug the club on the airwaves - and the guy isn't even a staffer! I reckon the club owes Masster a bottle of his favourite poison.

I personally found it rather irksome, of course, if we didn't give the opposition the choice/coin-flip etc in teh first place that solves everything. Stop this silly practice, and it all falls into place.
you know, for the record, you guys sounded pretty good imo over the webcast anyhow.

Trip to concessions, bathroom, conversation on topic that interests you. I would be shocked if every conversation is game related. True enough. Just irks me to hear loud gossip going on behind me at times from random people who normally either do not come to games or come to the southside. Hopefully seat allocation next season remedies this. In retrospect I think we do alright in the chatter department. Most other chatter I overhear does relate to football, the club or the Southsiders. |

Funny how it doesn't say anything about not talking during the game ... Sorry 86'er, but it was too easy.
