And it was a good discussion. Weber mentioned how Whitecaps games will be packed next year, but what about the atmosphere?

And that's my biggest fear next year: will people be sitting on their hands and try not to be rude? (In other words, like everyone was at the Caps-Beckham game; they cheared the loudest for the streaker for Christ's sake).

And so this is where we Southsiders will have to kick it up quite a few notches

When the Southsiders tried to get some atmosphere going at that match, some pubescent little prat of a girl sitting behind us scornfully muttered, "Do you guys have practices or something?"

I replied, "Your first Whitecaps match, then?"

Keep in mind that those people weren't there to see Vancouver, nor LA... they were there just for Beckham. I would certainly hope something buying a Vancouver season ticket would be more clued in about club football.

I think we'll see more people at Caps MLS games next year than we did at the Beckham game that are knowledgeable about soccer generally, and club soccer (and the Whitecaps) specifically, despite the number of spectators differences.

That's why I love seeing the Southsiders used in Whitecaps D2 promotions (just look in the front cover of the pocket-sized game schedule). If they show us singing and chanting and dancing and making noise, the other spectators will know that that's the norm (and thereby avoiding dummy questions).
